Review

Review is a web application that helps users in regulated industries speed up document review and compliance by running uploaded documents against customizable LLM workflows.

While I helped build the product from 0→1, helping the company secure contracts and funding, for the sake of brevity in this case study we’ll just look at one design I implemented.

Problem

Imagine you’re a developer submitting plans for a new apartment building to the city for approval. You upload your documents to our software and we come back with a list of compliance problems we found with your document.

Grading an exam

My initial solution was that the user uploads one or multiple documents and gets them marked up much like a teacher marking a student’s papers. By styling these like comments, my hope was that the metaphor was very obvious even to a non-technical user.

In practice, this resulted in a mess of overly verbose comments with no clear hierarchy. It became simply unwieldy.

The rubric solution

My insight was to stay with the teacher analogy. A teacher grades an exam according to a rubric where they sum up the results into a single score/explanation. Thus, I created a clear call to action at the top of the findings panel and allowed the user to view more detail through progressive disclosure.

In contrast, everything you can do in Super Tasker Pro is on a single page. I was inspired by how I sort my tasks in my personal Notion as well as Adam Whitcroft’s Twodos app.

The Vinyl Word

I made a website for New York’s greatest album listening club! Because the club revolves around analog appreciation, I wanted to make a site that felt like a print document. I turned to Rolling Stone Magazine and street flyers for inspiration. The site features a fully configurable headless CMS so that the site owner can swap in crucial information as needed.
